3PLs Now Eligible for C-TPAT
Last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that new C-TPAT security criteria for 3PLs will go into effect on January 1, 2009. 3PLs will need to meet specific criteria to participate in C-TPAT. This marks a significant accomplishment for IWLA's Government Affairs program, which has worked diligently for the last two years to convince CBP to include 3PLs as full participants in C-TPAT.
Customs will begin accepting applications through an online portal beginning January 1, 2009. Additional information on the criteria that 3PLs will need to meet can be found at www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/cargo_security/ctpat/third_party/.
C-TPAT participation for 3PLs will be discussed at upcoming regional IWLA Regional Mini-Conferences, with a fuller discussion being added to the program for the 2009 IWLA Annual Convention and Expo. Watch www.iwla.com for updates.
